Michael D. Harvey, Ph.D., P.G.
Dr. Harvey's principal area of expertise is the application of geomorphology to the solution of river engineering and other environmental problems. He has a broad academic background in soils, soil and water engineering, hydrology, sedimentology and geomorphology. During the past 20 years, he has gained extensive practical experience in applying the tools of engineering geomorphology to channel stabilization, environmental and flood control investigations for federal, state and local agencies throughout the U.S. and internationally. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 papers and reports and three books on various aspects of fluvial system behavior. Much of his experience involves identification and evaluation of appropriate methods for restoring highly perturbed streams channel systems. He has spent a considerable portion of his professional career working with coarse-grained streams in New Zealand, Jamaica, Pakistan and Indonesia, as well as in Colorado, South Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and California. He was retained by the Attorneys General of the States of Colorado and Idaho to evaluate channel maintenance flow claims in the National Forests in both states.
